Last night I was asked a very interesting question: What makes a good wedding photographer?
In my opinion a great wedding photographer has to be a good photojournalist to capture real action and emotions on people’s faces, fashion photographer to be able to get stunning magazine-like images of the bride who spend so much effort to look at her best that day, portrait photographer to get pictures of family members and friends who also in their tuxedos and gowns looking like they just stepped out from a fairy tale book, and product photographer for details and ambiance of the event. At the same time he has to think fast and to expect the unexpected because that’s than the real magic happens: a laughter, a tear on the bride’s face, a funny moment, a father’s glance on his daughter et..etc..etc..
A photographer has to be able to blend with the environment in order to be discreet especially during the spiritual part of the wedding, at the same time a photographer has to have good people skills to know how to direct people when needed particularly for the family portraits. At last a photographer has to be physically fit because weddings last long hours and photographer has to be alert all the time not to miss a precious moment.
